Signature Issues
Urban Farming and Community Gardens – Dukes says that “urban farms have been proven to stimulate local economies and increase property values.” He wants to increase access to locally-grown food by repurposing vacant lots, porches and even rooftops into community gardens.
Protecting the Environment – Dukes says that he will “provide financial and educational resources to farmers interested in switching from traditional to sustainable farming practices.” He wants to change farm management practices to help preserve the soil and mitigate the climate crisis.
Experience
Dukes has served as representative to the Georgia State Legislature since 1997, where he serves on the House Agriculture and Consumer Affairs Committee. He normally runs unopposed in his strongly Democratic district (District 154). Dukes owns a consulting firm in the construction management industry, and also consults in the food service and restaurant industries. He has served as second vice chairman of the Georgia Democratic Party for 12 years.
