UGA Students for Justice in Palestine packed city hall this week to demand the ACC Commission support an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. Israel has killed 16,000 Palestinians so far, according to the Gaza Health Ministry, while destroying civilian infrastructure including hospitals and blocking aid from freely entering the Gaza Strip.
The students were not always polite in their remarks. Irked commissioners responded defensively, chastising these students for making assumptions about their opinions on the situation in Gaza. These commissioners had not spoken publicly on the topic before that night.
Overall, the commission response was disappointing for the crowd, some of whom are Palestinian or are otherwise deeply affected on a personal and moral level by the slaughter, which is partially funded by US taxpayers. However, it seems that there is enough support on the commission to pass a ceasefire resolution, depending on how it is worded.
