Signature Issues
Voting Rights — Walton is a strong supporter of voting rights, including the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act, which has yet to pass Congress. This act would restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, which was gutted by the Supreme Court in 2013.
Expanding Medicaid — Walton wants to expand Medicaid to include dental, vision and mental healthcare while working towards universal coverage.
Fiscal Responsibility — Walton would push to balance the federal budget by eliminating tax loopholes and taxing capital gains at the same rate as other income.
Experience
Walton is the first Black elected official in Hull, Georgia. He served as city councilmember from 2008-2009 and again from 2018-2019. He was elected Mayor of Hull in 2019. He was given the Community Service Award from the Athens Black History Bowl in 2013 for his involvement with the Knights of Pythagoras, a youth development organization.
Walton was elected Third Vice President of the Georgia Municipal Association in 2021.
