Sharon Miller, former candidate for Mayor of Athens, Georgia
Sharon Miller, a former senior pastor of Greater Bethel Church in Athens, ran unsuccessfully to be Athens-Clarke County Mayor in 2026.
Signature Issues
Sensible governance — During her 2026 campaign, Miller said she wanted a transparent government that involves its citizens in problem-solving on the front-end, not when the decision has already been made. She wanted the local government’s decisions to make sense to the average person. She said she would bring a common sense-approach and an analytical mind to the office.
Fighting poverty — Miller said she was “disturbed” by Athens’ high poverty rate and would make the well-being of all residents a priority.
Experience
At the time of her 2026 campaign, Miller was a pastor in Jefferson. She’s also a former organizer with the Atlanta Project, which was dedicated to fighting poverty and improving urban quality of life. She says she “managed several federally-funded initiatives…including [one] focused on [the] reduction of recidivism among young offenders holding drug charges.” She completed the ACC Community Police Academy program in 2023. She had no previous political experience.
Political Affiliation
Miller takes Democratic primary ballots exclusively.
